From Nathan Wrann:

Earlier this month, writer-director and NEHW member Nathan Wrann had his second film, Burning Inside, shown at the historic Thomaston Opera House in Thomaston, Connecticut.

Burning Inside is an exploration of the intertwined nature of revenge and memory. It is the second feature from Wrann and his production company, Dalton Gang Productions. The production company was founded in 2006 by Wrann and his wife, Kimberly Dalton. They started the production company because they were dissatisfied with the caliber of modern independent horror movies and cult thrillers. They set out to create the kind of underground movies they would like to see. They want those movies to be literate and thought provoking in plot, brutal and unrelenting in tension.

Burning Inside was shot entirely in Connecticut and premiered at the Connecticut Film Festival earlier this year.

After the screening, there was a discussion with Wrann and the cast and crew of the film. Wrann chose the Thomaston Opera House because the venue is “a beautifully restored, historic theater.” He scouted it when looking for locations to shoot his next project which is a short film adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher. “Upon entering the theater, I immediately fell in love with the remarkable craftsmanship found in the auditorium,” Wrann said. “While discussing its use as a location, we discovered that the theater is equipped to screen movies and knew that it would be a perfect venue for a screening of Burning Inside.”

Wrann is an independent filmmaker out of West Haven, Connecticut.

Burning Inside is the first film distributed by Channel Midnight Releasing (www.channelmidnight.com), the new distribution label from respected cult filmmaker James Felix McKenney (Canniballistic!, Hypothermia) and producers Lisa Wisely (Automatons, Satan Hates You) and Chase Tyler of The Work Room Productions.

Gelehrter a.k.a. TV horror hostess Penny Dreadful, has been approached by indie comic book company, Comic Book Divas, about doing a Penny Dreadful comic.  It will be an EC-style horror anthology called Penny Dreadful’s Cauldron of Terror.  She will be writing both the hosting wraparounds for Penny and the stories themselves.  For now, this will be a one-shot but it might turn into a series if there’s enough interest.

From Sandy DeLuca:

From Robert Heske:

Eric Roberts (The Expendables, The Dark Knight) has signed a letter of interest to appear in the forthcoming indie horror film, Unrest. Roberts has appeared in over 190 films. Unrest was written by Heske and will be produced by him as well.

The film was inspired by two of his favorite indie horror films, Eden Lake, a 2008 indie cult tale from the United Kingdom and Stir of Echoes, the supernatural murder mystery starring Kevin Bacon.

The film will be shot in California in the summer of 2011. Anyone interested in learning more about the film can contact Bob at bobheske@gmail.com.

From Stacey Longo:

Longo has two stories, “Trojan Horse” and “Turnabout”, appearing in Pill Hill Press’s Daily Bites of Flesh 2011: 365 Days of Flash Fiction. The anthology was sent to the printer on November 23 and should be available to the public the first week of December. Visit www.pillhillpress.com to order.

From Daniel Sutter:

Sutter, writing under the pen name D.G. Sutter, has two flash stories, “Dew on their Blades” and “Precious Youth” for Blood Bound Books’ (www.bloodboundbooks.net) anthology Seasons in the Abyss.

He also has a short story, “Shallow”, appearing in an anthology, Look What I Found, being published by Norgus Press (http://norguspress.com/). The publisher is still looking for submissions for this anthology.

Kray’s Bay Island should be hitting bookstores and online stores by late February. It is being published by Outskirts Press. The story centers on a small island off the coast of Maine called Bay Island. Unbeknown to the islanders, a virus has hit the mainland, turning people into zombies.

Four items:

1. I want to apologize to Nathan Wrann for overlooking his news for the last newsletter. I added the info I put up on the NEHW blog about his event in this newsletter.
2. Next month from December 13 through December 25, I will be doing a two-week trial period as a newspaper reporter. During this period, I want to focus only on this and hopefully it will become a full-time position. Therefore the next newsletter will be at the end of December or early January.
