The Book Shop is the Place for Readers

The Book Shop in Somerville, MA. welcomes Dennis Lehane and several authors of Pink Narcissus Press next week.

DlehaneOn Wednesday, May 15, author Dennis Lehane, who grew up in Boston, will be talking about his books and giving a Q & A at 7 p.m. A book signing will follow.

Since his first novel, A Drink Before the War, won the Shamus Award, Lehane has published eight more novels with William Morrow & Co. that have been translated into more than 30 languages and become international bestsellers: Darkness, Take My Hand, Sacred, Gone, Baby, Gone, Prayers for Rain, Mystic River, Shutter Island, The Given Day, and Moonlight Mile.

Morrow also published Coronado, a collection of five stories and his play of the same name, in 2007. Coronado has received stage productions in New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, and Genoa, Italy. Three of his novels — Mystic River, Gone, Baby, Gone, and Shutter Island — have been adapted into award-winning films.

His tenth novel, Live By Night, which was published last October, has just won an Edgar Award. The store will have tradesize paperback editions available for purchase as well as some of his other books.

On Saturday, May 18, a number of authors of Pink Narcissus Press will be at the bookstore at 3 p.m.

Pink Narcissus Press is a local publisher of quirky fantasy and other speculative fiction and is located in Auburn, Ma. The press is led by Rose Mambert along with the help of Bill Racicot. It’s novels and story collections boast authors from all over the world.

The May 18 event will feature these authors; Mambert from Auburn, Racicot from Medford, J.P. LaFond from Somerville, David Vernaglia from Providence, and Matt MacKenzie from Cambridge.

The Books Shop is located at 694 Broadway in Somerville.

Author Erin Thorne Promotes Latest Book at Four Places in May

new author picMassachusetts author Erin Thorne will be appearing at four places this month to promote her latest book, Behind the Wheel.

The first stop on her tour is the Westfield Athenaeum on Tuesday, May 14, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. She’ll read from her latest work, Behind The Wheel. She will be signing copies of all of her books, which will be available for purchase. Her other books are Diane’s Descent and Deals Diabolical.

The Athenaeum is located at 6 Elm Street in Westfield, MA. This event is free and open to the public.

Her second stop is Books & Boos on Saturday, May 18, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. She will be reading from Behind the Wheel. Her other books will also be available for purchase at this event, which is free and open to the public.

The bookstore is located at 514 Westchester Road in Colchester, CT.

Her third stop is at Books & Beans on Saturday, May 25. She will be signing copies of all her books, which will be available for purchase from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

The store is located at 100 Central Street in Southbridge, MA.

Her fourth and last stop in May is at the Sutton Public Library on Thursday, May 30, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. She will read from Behind the Wheel and sign copies of all of her books, which will be available for purchase. This event is free and open to the public.

Author Erin Thorne will be in Woodstock, Connecticut, on Friday at Treasures and Trash Consignment Shoppe from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The consignment shop is located at 1115 Rt. 169.

On Saturday, Thorne will be at The Book Shop in Somerville, Massachusetts, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. reading from her latest book, Behind The Wheel: And Other Stories.

A Dark Carnival of Authors/Remembering Rick Hautala

Another event involving authors takes place at Annie’s Book Stop in Worcester on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The authors involved in this day-long event of horror and dark fantasy are Eric Dimbleby, Morven Westfield, Frank Raymond Michaels, K.A. Laity, Errick Nunnally, Inanna Arthen, Kristi Petersen Schoonover, TJ May, Rose Mambert, and Jessie Olson. They will be there at different times throughout the day. They are sharing their own work and honoring award-winning horror author Rick Hautala, who passed away this past March.

Stop in to hear some amazing and chilling writing, chat with authors, and remember the kind and talented Rick Hautala.

Stars of ‘The Walking Dead’ to Invade Boston Comic Con

Boston Comic Con celebrates its sixth year with its biggest show ever. The convention runs from April 20 through 21 at the Hynes Convention Center.
Lauren Cohan (“Maggie Greene”) and Jon Bernthal (“Shane Walsh”) from the hit television series The Walking Dead will be in attendance both days.
The guest list features some of the most illustrious comic creators in the world including George Perez (Superman), Carlos Pacheco (X-Men), Mike Mignola (Hellboy), Amanda Conner (Silk Spectre), Mark Bagley (Fantastic Four), Bill Willingham (Fables) plus many, many more!

Authors Signing at Craft Fair

The New England Horror Writers will be at the indoor Heritage Craft Fair in Framingham, MA. this coming Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Authors on hand will be Rob Smales, Rob Watts, Erin Thorne, Rose Mambert, Tracy Carbone, Bracken MacLeod, and Scott Goudsward.

The craft fair will be held at the Keefe Technical School, located at 750 Winter Street in Framingham, MA.

‘Willard’ Actor Coming to RAW

Actor Crispin Hellion Glover (Back to the Future) will be at Real Art Ways this Friday and Saturday.

Crispin GloverOn Friday at 7 p.m., he will be presenting a film, It is Fine! Everything is Fine, that he co-directed with David Brothers. He will also be performing a one-hour dramatic narration of eight different illustrated books. The images from these books will be projected behind Glover. There will also be a Q&A and booksigning.

On Saturday at 7 p.m., he will be presenting his directorial debut, What Is It? He will also perform another one-hour dramatic narration, but a different one then the one on Friday night. He will also do a Q&A and sign books.

Books will be available on-site for purchasing.

The event costs $18 for RAW members and $20 for everyone else.

NEHW Panels at Queen City Kamikaze

The New England Horror Writers will be conducting two panels Horror in the Movies at 3:45 p.m. and Vampires in Literature and Film from Nosferatu to Edward Cullen at 4:30 p.m.

The Queen City Kamikaze convention happens in Manchester, New Hampshire at Manchester Memorial High School located at 1 Crusader Way. The convention runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The cost of admission is $10.

The second Queen City Kamikaze convention happens in Manchester, New Hampshire next Saturday. It’s what everyone needs after winter storm Nemo this past weekend. Everyone should be dug out and will want to head over to Manchester Memorial High School, located at 1 Crusader Way. The convention runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The admission price is $10.

The NEHW will be participating in two panels: Horror in the Movies and Vampires in Literature and the Movies from Nosferatu to Edward Cullen. The panelists for Horror in the Movies will be Jason Harris (moderator), Stacey Longo, Rob Watts, and David Price. And the panelists for the other panel are Bracken MacLeod (moderator), Scott Goudsward, Errick A. Nunnally, and Bill Rockwell.

The NEHW will also have a number of tables where our members will be selling their novels, anthologies, children books, dvds, and other merchandise. Stop by to buy a book and get it signed or just stop by to talk.

Rob Smales and Tony Tremblay, two other NEHW members who are not on the panels, will be on hand at the tables as well.

Author Chuck Hogan Coming to The Book Shop

The Book Shop in Somerville, MA. will be hosting author Chuck Hogan on Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. He will read from one of his novels, which will then be followed by a Q & A. This event is free.

Hogan is the New York Times bestselling author of several acclaimed novels, including The Town, which was previously published as Prince of Thieves and Devils in Exile. He has also co-authored The Strain trilogy (The Strain, The Fall and The Night Eternal) with writer and director Guillermo Del Toro.
