Barbeque to Support Fire Victims

Barbeque to Support Fire Victims

There will be a Paulette Smith Family Fire Fund Chicken Barbeque to benefit fire victims this coming Sunday in Coventry’s Creaser Park.

The chicken barbeque happens from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Creaser Park in Coventry, CT. on Sunday, August 19 to benefit the Smith family, of Coventry, who lost their home at 102 Rabbit Trail in a fire on July 21 where several fire departments battled the fire which caused extensive damage.

Paulette and her son, J.P., were not home at the time, but the family’s dog died in the blaze. The family also lost all of their belongings in the fire.

Tickets for the barbeque are $12 for adults and $6 for kids under 12 years-old. For tickets, call Leane at (860) 983-8815. Along with food, the event will have music too.

The park is located at 100 Case Road, Coventry, CT 06238.

NEHW Anthology Free for First Time

The New England Horror Writers’ first anthology will be free on Kindle for three days.

Epitaphs will be free from Sunday through Tuesday, through Amazon’s Kindle platform. It is normally $4.99. This is the first time this Stoker nominated anthology has been free since it was released as an e-book in February. To purchase, click here.

There will be an Epitaphs signing on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Friendly Neighborhood Comics in Bellingham, Massachusetts, where most of the authors will be on-hand to sign the collection. This date is close to the one-year anniversary of the anthology’s release last October. This signing will be the first of its kind since it made its debut at last year’s Anthocon in New Hampshire where most of the authors in the book were there to sign it.

The NEHW at the Queen City Kamikaze Convention

NEHW Members Appearing at Anime and Video Game Convention

On Saturday, Feb. 18, members of the New England Horror Writers’ organization will be appearing at the Queen City Kamikaze Anime and Video Game convention at the Manchester Memorial High School in Manchester, New Hampshire.

The NEHW will have three tables where authors’ Stacey Longo, Rob Watts, Tracey L. Carbone, K. Allen Wood, Kristi Petersen Schoonover, Alyn Day, and Scott Goudsward will be selling and signing their books. The Demonhunter a.k.a. Nathan Schoonover will be on hand to talk about being a paranormal investigator for almost 20 years.

Some of these members will be on two panels: Trends in Horror: From the Apocalypse to Zombies: Where is Horror Heading? and Women in Horror. These panels will happen from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. More information about who will be on these two panels will be announced soon.

The convention starts at 10 a.m. and runs into 7 p.m. For more information about the convention, click here.

Author’s Poe Inspired Story Available Now

Author Kristi Petersen Schoonover’s short story “Vanity,” which was inspired by Poe’s “The Oval Portrait” is now available in Dark Opus Press’ In Poe’s Shadow.

In this anthology, which should be part of any Poe-lover’s collection, each piece is inspired by one of Poe’s, and they’re grouped as such. If you’re a fan of “The Fall of the House of Usher,” there’s Sorrel Wood’s “De’Atherton House;” if you’re a fan of “The Masque of the Red Death” there’s S.S. Authors at Zombie Walk

Authors Stacey Longo, Jennifer Yarter-Polmatier, Kristi Petersen Schoonover, D.G. Sutter, and Corrine De Winter will be at the NEHW tent at the Enfield Zombie Walk this Saturday. Come and meet them.

The walk starts at 11:30 a.m. at the John F. Kennedy Middle School on Raffia Road and ends at the fire station at 199 Weymouth Road. The fire station is where the vendors will be set-up. Check out http://www.enfieldzombiewalk.moonfruit.com/ for more information on the Zombie Walk.

Author Accepted in Workshop

Author Kristi Petersen Schoonover has been accepted to the Norman Mailer Center’s summer workshop, “When is a Writer’s Work Done” with Veronica Windholz, a manuscript editor of fiction and nonfiction for more than thirty years who has worked with Norman Mailer, E.L. Doctorow, Salman Rushdie, and many others. Windholz, who is on the staff at Viking Penguin, has taught in the publishing program at NYU’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies, and has held positions at Random House and the Aaron M. Priest Literary Agency.
“When is a Writer’s Work Done” will be held at the Norman Mailer Writer Center in Provincetown, Mass. The workshop will have 7 attendees, who were selected based on merit.
 
Her short story “Wailing Station,” which was a Toasted Cheese contest winner and was included in a syllabus for a course at Wolfeboro, NH’s Brewster Academy last year, has now been added to the syllabus for Composition II: Introduction to Literature at North Shore Community College in Danvers, Mass.
