NEHW Members at Rhode Island Comic Con this Weekend

The Rhode Island Comic Con happens this weekend in Providence at the Convention Center and members of the New England Horror Writers will be there.

Author Don Franklin, who has his own table at the convention, will have his first novel, Reaper’s Walk: Hellstone, on hand and will be autographing copies.

According to Grayhart Press, the book’s publisher, “follow The Reaper’s Walk series of supernatural thrillers as Lita and her family —  descendants of a dark witch from the 18th century —  form fragile alliances and fight desperate battles with demons, werewolves, witches, and vampires in an attempt to capture the Circle of Stones and escape their doom … because after waiting 10 generations, the Reaper is coming to collect his due.”
The books official launch was Oct. 31 and it will be available through Smashwords, Barnes and Noble, iTunes and other booksellers in a few weeks, the publisher has told Franklin.

The other NEHW members, who will be at Comic Con, are Stacey Longo (Epitaphs, Pookie and the Lost and Found Friend) Rob Watts (Huldufolk), Kristi Petersen Schoonover (Skeletons in the Swimmin’ Hole, Bad Apple) and Scott Goudsward (Epitaphs, Call of Lovecraft).

Two Authors to Appear at Marlborough Shop this Saturday

This Saturday, authors Stacey Longo and Catherine Grant will be appearing at The Shops at the Marlborough Barn in Marlborough, which is located in Marlborough, Connecticut. They will be reading and signing from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Longo will read from her story, “Private Beach,” which is in Epitaphs, the first anthology created by the NEHW. This collection will be on sale at the event. Longo is the Co-chair of the NEHW, a former columnist for the Block Island Times and the co-owner of Books and Boos, a bookstore.

Grant will read from her story, “Three Fat Guy Soap.” Along with being a NEHW member and writing fiction, she also runs a writing critique group, Central Connecticut Writers Group.

The Shops at the Marlborough Barn is located at 45 North Main Street in Marlborough.

The NEHW at Rock and Shock

The New England Horror Writers will be appearing at Rock and Shock this weekend. There will be plenty of members manning the booth all weekend. They will be selling and signing their books.Epitaphs is one book in particular which will be on hand. It’s the first anthology produced by the NEHW. This Saturday marks the one-year anniversary of this collection being published. Here are the authors who have stories in Epitaphs that will be at the convention this weekend: Mike Arruda, Scott Goudsward, Stacey Longo, Paul McMahon, Kurt Newton, L.L. Soares, K. Allen Wood, and Trisha Wooldridge. Tracy L. Carbone, the editor of the anthology, will also be on-hand.

Other NEHW members, who will be at the convention, are Ashleigh Homon, Adam Cesare, Bracken Macleod, David Price, Gene Munson, Jason Harris, Jack Haringa, Jan Kozlowski, Kelli Jones, Kristi Petersen Schoonover, Matt Bechtel, Patrick Rahall, Rebekah Murphy, Rob Watts, T.J. May, Paul Tremblay, Bob Booth, and Jennifer Yarter-Polmatier.

They will also be four panels that the NEHW members will be involved in. This is the second year the organization has been on different panels. This year on the Women in Horror panel members , Carbone, Longo, and Wooldridge will be joined by Heather Langenkamp of Nightmare on Elm Street fame and Lisa Marie of Sleepy Hollow and Mars Attacks! fame.

The other panels will be “Breaking into the Biz” with Harris, May, Bechtel, and Schoonover, and “Horror in the Movies” with Harris, Longo, Soares, and Macleod.

The NEHW Appearing at the Hebron Harvest Fair for the Second Time

The New England Horror Writers’ Association will be appearing at the Hebron Harvest Fair for the second year in a row.

Seven New England authors are scheduled to appear at the fair from Sept. 6 through 9 to do readings, perform skits, and autograph books.

Author Stacey Longo will be at the fair all four days, with copies of her children’s book Pookie and the Lost & Found Friend, which was just published in July 2012. Her short stories have appeared in numerous anthologies, including the Stoker-nominated Epitaphs, which will also be available at the NEHW booth.

Also appearing will be Kurt Newton, author of The Brainpan Concerto, Ultimate PerVERSEities, and Powerlines, among other titles. He will be at the fair on Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

G. Elmer Munson will be on hand on Saturday to sign copies of his novel, Stripped.

Robert Duperre, author of seven novels including The Fall and Silas, will be at the NEHW booth on Saturday.

Rob Watts, author of Huldufolk, will be at the fair Saturday. Huldufolk is an Icelandic fantasy/horror novella that comes with a free CD of music compiled by the fictional band in the story.

Authors Alan S. Kessler (A Satan Carol) and Dan Foley will be appearing on Saturday and author David Price (Tales from the Grave: An Anthology of True Ghost Stories) will be appearing on Sunday.

The NEHW was formed in 2001 to promote writers and illustrators of dark fiction within and outside the association. They offer writing workshops, discussion forums, social events, and appearance opportunities to their members.

NEHW Anthology Free for First Time

The New England Horror Writers’ first anthology will be free on Kindle for three days.

Epitaphs will be free from Sunday through Tuesday, through Amazon’s Kindle platform. It is normally $4.99. This is the first time this Stoker nominated anthology has been free since it was released as an e-book in February. To purchase, click here.

There will be an Epitaphs signing on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Friendly Neighborhood Comics in Bellingham, Massachusetts, where most of the authors will be on-hand to sign the collection. This date is close to the one-year anniversary of the anthology’s release last October. This signing will be the first of its kind since it made its debut at last year’s Anthocon in New Hampshire where most of the authors in the book were there to sign it.

Friendly Neighborhood Comics

Friendly Neighborhood Comics in Bellingham, MA.

The trip to the Northeastern Writers’ Conference (Necon) took a stop in Bellingham, MA. at the Friendly Neighborhood Comics. It wasn’t a stop for comic books, but a few collections of Batman comics were bought. The stop was made to meet the store’s owner, Ernie Pelletier, Jr. and to look over the store since there will be an Epitaphs signing on Saturday, Oct. 6.

NEHW at New England Authors Expo

Members of the New England Horror Writers organization will be at the 2012 New England Authors Expo at the Danversport Yacht Club this Wednesday, July 18, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

NEHW authors involved in the expo are Tracy L. Carbone (Epitaphs), Christopher Golden (21st Century Dead: A Zombie Anthology, Epitaphs), Scott Goudsward (Trailer Trash, Epitaphs) , John M. Mcllveen (21st Century Dead: A Zombie Anthology, Epitaphs), David Price (Tales from the Grave: An Anthology of True Ghost Stories), and Rob Watts (Huldufólk).

The event, which is being held in the Harborview Ballroom of the yacht club, hosts Lost in Space actor, Mark Goddard, who will be signing his book, To Space and Back.

Author’s ‘Dead Flies’ Await You

Author Peter N. Dudar’s debut novel, A Requiem for Dead Flies, was released by Nightscape Press on June 19.

A brief synopsis of the novel:

Dudar’s writing isn’t new to the New England Horror Writers since his story, “Church of Lightning and Thunder,” was included in the NEHW’s first anthology, Epitaphs, which was published last October.

Horror Writers to Invade Strawberry Fest (updated 6/13/12)

The New England Horror Writers’ Association (NEHW) will be appearing at the South Windsor Strawberry Festival & Craft Fair on Saturday, June 16 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Published writers and illustrators will be on hand to sell books, magazines, and prints.

Scheduled to appear at the event is Robert J. Duperre, author of The Gate and Dead of Winter, among other titles. This is Duperre’s first NEHW appearance. He will be available to sign books and answer questions throughout the day.

Also on hand will be Stacey Longo, who has had over 15 short stories published in anthologies and magazines, including Epitaphs, Malicious Deviance, Shroud, and Shock Totem. Other writers on hand will be Kristi Petersen Schoonover (Skeletons in the Swimmin’ Hole: Tales from Haunted Disney World, In Poe’s Shadow), Rob Watts (Huldufolk) and David Price (Tales from the Grave).

Also appearing will be illustrator Jesse Young. This is also Young’s first appearance at a NEHW event. He has illustrated the cover art for a number of DuPerre’s novels.

The festival and craft fair is being head at Nevers Road Park, which is across from the South Windsor Police Station. The admission is free. Check out the festival’s website, www.berryfest.org, for more information about entertainment and other vendors.
