Live Blogging from the Hebron Harvest Fair

The third day is going well. The authors haven’t risen up with their pens to kill me because of my anal retentiveness or controlling personality.

The books are selling, the authors are happy even in the sun, and the NEHW t-shirts are selling well.

I have to thank the Hartford Courant people who allowed us to use their booth since we had so many authors at our booth. They allowed us to hang out and just relax while other authors were talking with horror fans. If you ever need the Courant and you live in Connecticut, you can’t go wrong with calling Ray Tedeschi at 860-758-7799 or Edward Carella at 860-232-7272 to sign-up for home delivery. Our authors even picked up some pointers from Jeff Sobiech on getting the NEHW name out there. So if you live in the state and you are visiting a fair, go visit the Hartford Courant booth. I would tell you to go talk to Jeff, but if he is running the booth he will come out to talk to you even before you get to his booth. He is an interesting man and it was great talking to him.

It is time to go eat some more fair food. While I am gone, please read the entries from the last couple of days. There is some interesting information within these entries.

Necon E-books Revamps Website

Necon E-books revamped website debuts Friday. The largest and most exciting addition of the new site will be the Live Blog. The goal for the blog is to inspire and engender online conversation about all things related to horror literature. The company also wants to create those aspects in what it does in publishing, e-books, book reviews, author appreciations, etc.

Bob Booth, founder of Necon E-books, has already started a regular feature for the site called “Bob’s Table at Café Necon,” his own personal book review column written in the manner of a discussion around “his” table at the Necon convention. For more information about Necon, check out the website, www.campnecon.com.

The blog will contain a number of posts about writers or titles published by the company, but won’t be exclusively about them. Booth’s first review is of a novel
by an author the company has not had the pleasure of publishing. The blog will be about the entire genre. The company sees this as an opportunity for everyone to promote, celebrate, and hopefully thereby grow the field of horror.

The blog will only feature positive commentary about specific writers or novels. They would rather spend their time (and online column inches) showcasing talent and works they like rather than criticizing those they don’t. They may write something critical about an overall theme or trope in the genre which they are unhappy about, or be professionally critical of trends within the publishing industry, which they may not agree with, but they will never use the blog to make any personal attacks.
“In short, you have our word that if you see your name on our blog, you’re going to like what you read next.”

Check out the revamped website, www.neconebooks.com.

Revisiting what the NEHW is all about.

This blog was started almost a month ago and has steadily risen in hits per day. I thought it would be nice to revisit what the New England Horror Writers (NEHW) is all about.

Founded in 2001, New England Horror Writers (NEHW) provides peer support and networking, with a relaxed and social mindset, for authors of horror and dark fantasy in the New England area. NEHW focuses on forming new friendships and supporting each other’s writing goals, as well as promoting the writing of New England authors.
NEHW is primarily a writer’s organization, focusing on horror and dark fiction writers in all mediums (novels, short stories, screenplays, poetry, etc.) in the New England area. But we are also open to professional editors, illustrators, agents and publishers of horror and dark fiction in the region.
NEHW activities include book signings and group panel discussions at conventions, as well as purely social gatherings. With members ranging from Maine to Connecticut, NEHW events take place in varying locations, making it easier for different members to meet with each other.

Qualifications To Join New England Horror Writers (NEHW)

New England Horror Writers (NEHW) is open to all New England horror authors (novel, short story, screenplay, poetry) at all experience levels. Our members include full-time, mass market authors with decades of experience as well as unpublished newcomers. NEHW does not require specific publishing or payment qualifications to join, but actively encourages all members to strive for the highest professional levels of achievement. We do not charge any dues.
If you meet these qualifications, then click on http://www.horror.org/ne/join.htm to join NEHW.
