First Day at the Hebron Harvest Fair and other upcoming posts

20110909-024649.jpgThe first day of the Hebron Harvest Fair and the NEHW booth received some visitors. Authors Dan Keohane, Stacey Longo, and Kurt Newton met a number of people and had some great conversations. If you are one of the people who stopped by the booth, thank you for visiting.

A number of fairgoers entered the raffle worth over $1,000. If I wasn’t the one running the raffle, I would love to enter and win. A raffle with 42 books including a many signed books including a Stephen King novel. A number of the books are also limited editions. I want to thank some our members Tracy Carbone, Scott , and Longo who donated books. I also would like to thank Chaosium, Inc., Prime Books, Nightshade Books, Borderlands Press, Delirium Books, and Knopf Publicity for their donations. All these people and companies made this raffle what it is today.

It was fun seeing the people from Zombee Bob again. NEHW met them at the Enfield Zombie walk in August. This is there second event just like it is ours. Check out the Zombee Bob site, www.zombeebob.com.

In the upcoming weeks and months, NEHW will be at Rock and Shock in Worcester and Anthocon in New Hampshire. There will be entries on the these events before and after the events.

The first NEHW anthology will be released at Anthocon in November. There will be more news coming in the future.

Necon E-books Revamps Website

Necon E-books revamped website debuts Friday. The largest and most exciting addition of the new site will be the Live Blog. The goal for the blog is to inspire and engender online conversation about all things related to horror literature. The company also wants to create those aspects in what it does in publishing, e-books, book reviews, author appreciations, etc.

Bob Booth, founder of Necon E-books, has already started a regular feature for the site called “Bob’s Table at Café Necon,” his own personal book review column written in the manner of a discussion around “his” table at the Necon convention. For more information about Necon, check out the website, www.campnecon.com.

The blog will contain a number of posts about writers or titles published by the company, but won’t be exclusively about them. Booth’s first review is of a novel
by an author the company has not had the pleasure of publishing. The blog will be about the entire genre. The company sees this as an opportunity for everyone to promote, celebrate, and hopefully thereby grow the field of horror.

The blog will only feature positive commentary about specific writers or novels. They would rather spend their time (and online column inches) showcasing talent and works they like rather than criticizing those they don’t. They may write something critical about an overall theme or trope in the genre which they are unhappy about, or be professionally critical of trends within the publishing industry, which they may not agree with, but they will never use the blog to make any personal attacks.
“In short, you have our word that if you see your name on our blog, you’re going to like what you read next.”

Paranormal Investigator at Hebron Harvest Fair

Paranormal investigator Nathan Schoonover, host of A&E’s Extreme Paranormal and one half of the Ghostman & Demonhunter radio show (http://www.ghostanddemon.com/) will be appearing at the New England Horror Writers’ organization’s booth at the Hebron Harvest Fair this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

NEHW at the Hebron Harvest Fair

The Hebron Harvest Fair starts Thursday, which is only days away. The New England Horror Writers’ organization will have a booth there. The members manning the booth will be Jennifer Yarter-Polmatier, Stacey Longo, Kristi Petersen Schoonover, Nathan Schoonover, T.J. May, Dan Keohane, Danny Evarts, Dan Foley, Kurt Newton, Nathan Wrann, Raven Starr, Ron Winter, Greg X. Graves, Scott Goudsward, and K. Allen Wood.

Author’s New Short Story and Upcoming Appearance

Author Kurt Newton’s short story, “Space Sucks…and Then You Die,” is now available in issue #8 of Polluto (http://www.polluto.com).

Newton calls his story “a blackly humorous and nourish tale of pool sharks, bar flies and the ultimate payback.”

Newton will be appearing at the Hebron Harvest Fair with other NEHW authors from Sept. 8 through 11. He will be selling and signing copies of Breaking Eggs, a novella he co-wrote with L.L Soares. He will also have two poetry collections on hand, The Ultimate perVERSEities and Life Among the Dream Merchants.

Author’s Six Tales Re-Released as E-book

Author John Grover announces the re-release of Terror in Small Doses, which was originally released by Nocturne press. The chapbook contains six tales of horror and the supernatural. It is available for the first time as an e-book on Amazon (http://amzn.to/pBrDHf). The price is .99 cents.

The new cover was done by artist Kirk Alberts, who produced the original cover.

Author Kevin Lewis’ short story, “The Floodings,” appears in Creature Feature: A Monster anthology, whcih is now available as an e-book through Amazon (http://amzn.to/qMi8Zm). The print edition is coming soon.
